Meditating Robot

Description

In my 20th Century Art History class yesterday, we were shown slides of Dadaist artwork, including George Grosz. He and other artists made artwork depicting people as machines. It fascinated me, I had seen plenty of that artwork before but never had I understood it within the context of the post-Industrial Revolution. I knew right away that I wanted to create artwork with similar robotic themes.

This morning was the first morning in which I started my new meditative habits. I woke up at sunrise, meditated, worked out, and played the piano. Every morning, I'm going to wake up at sunrise, meditate, and do something productive. I feel amazing, much clearer and lighter. This was brought on by the material of my World Religions class - Zen Buddhism and Tao for the past few weeks - and from being sick of my emotions. I had tried meditation before, but let it slide rather quickly. Now I'm forming the habit rather than just doing it when I feel like it.

A combination of my meditative studies and Dadaism (I'm probably using the wrong term . . . deal with it) made me think of this piece. The body is a machine: it functions, creates waste, wears down. But it holds the light of God. Meditation not only strengthens that light but also helps the machine function more.

I absolutely love this. I want to create more pieces like this and I've had a similar idea for a painting for over a year. It was not really a joy to create, but very fulfilling.

Drawn with pen, colored and manipulated on Photoshop.

Really lovely piece. I like the idea behind it, too - that we break down, disappear phsyically, but there's always the soul.
I like how it's split open.
